LIGHTS, CAMERA...DANCE!
Held annually from 2009 through 2015, Jazz Dance film Fest was the first festival of it's kind: a music video contest dedicated to vintage jazz music and dance. Dancers from all over the world have contributed to this collection, and a wide variety of dances are represented in these films.
The dances you will see include: Lindy Hop, Balboa, Charleston, Vernacular Jazz, Tap, and Blues. These dances are taught all over the world, and most classes do not require a partner! If you are inspired by what you see, search online for lessons in your area and get started! Lindy Hop (also known as swing dancing, or jitterbug) is a very good place to start.
Please share the films with anyone who might enjoy them. If you know an organizer wishing to pursue a similar project, please direct them to the contents of this website as a resource. If you have questions about our experiences running this contest, you can email us at info@jazzdancefilmfest.com.
We extend our thanks to everyone who made this contest a reality. Although this endeavor has come to an end, it is our hope that dancers and musicians will continue working together to produce new films to share with the world for years to come.
