Music

One of the many goals of Jazz Dance Film Fest is to encourage accessibility of this music and culture to those who are experiencing it for the first time. We encourage the use of modern recordings that do not suffer from the technological shortcomings of jazz era equipment, and furthermore we ensure that we have the musicians' permission to use their recordings in the entries submitted to the contest.

Jazz Dance Film Fest has negotiated some music for use in your videos. We are fortunate to have these very generous bands allowing us to use the music from the albums below (song samples provided). You will still have to purchase the songs (individually or in their respective albums) to use them in your video.

Please note that the bands below have agreed to let you use their music for this contest, and for promoting jazz dancing on a not-for-profit basis. If you wish to use your video for commercial or for-profit purposes, you will need work that out with the band yourself.

In addition, if you or your friends are in a band, and the band is willing to let you use their music for your video -- wonderful! Just have the band read the Fine Print page and submit the band's signed Band Permission Form to info@jazzdancefilmfest.com when submitting your entry.

2015 Contest Music

2014 Contest Bands

We'd like to thank the bands who agreed to let us use their music for this past year's contest. This contest would not be possible without their support. Please check out their music!

Other Bands

If you would like to work with a different band, you will need to get a signed Band Permission Form from them to use their music. The music must also conform to our guidelines for qualified jazz music. Feel free to reach out to any of the contest bands from prior years!
